Marcus Smart suspended by Boston Celtics for preseason final game

The Boston Celtics suspended Marcus Smart for Friday’s final preseason game against the Miami Heat, and a source told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski that the point guard was punished for missing the team’s flight.

Smart, who has since joined the team on the tour, declined to discuss his suspension with reporters, saying he and coach Ime Udoka will keep the aforementioned “at home.”

Smart, 27, and the Celtics reached a four-year, $ 77 million contract extension during the offseason after he averaged career highs in points (13.1), assists (5.7), blocks (0.5) and minutes (32.9) last season.

Smart has played his entire seven-year career with the Celtics, who selected him sixth overall in the 2014 draft.

ESPN’s Tim Bontemps contributed to this report.
