What are the rules for hunting?
In France, the practice of hunting is subject to in possession of a licensewhich takes the form of a document authorizing hunting in a territory and for a specific period.
It is issued by the French Office for Biodiversity (OFB) and follows strict rules provided for by the Environmental Code and what they are:
- Be at least 16 years old;
- Produce the required medical certificate;
- Not to be under guardianship unless authorized by the tutelary judge;
- Not be deprived of the right to bear arms;
- Not having been convicted of a hunting police offense and being in good standing with previous convictions;
- Not having been sentenced to more than 6 months’ imprisonment for rebellion or violence against agents of the public authority;

The license is issued after an examination. If it is a life document, therefore valid for life, it must be renewed every year by a departmental federation of hunters in order to remain valid. Otherwise it will be impossible for the hunter to take advantage of the hunting season.
And be careful, warns the ministry of ecological transition and territorial cohesion : “Hunting without permission is punished with a fine of up to up to 1,500 euros. Hunting without authorization is punished with a fine of up to 38 euros. “
