On the 26th day of the new normal, Mexico reports 25,779 deaths from COVID-19, in addition to 208,392 accumulated confirmed cases, of which 25,786 represent the active epidemic.

The Director General of Epidemiology, José Luis Alomía Zegarra, reported that 719 more deaths from the disease were confirmed in the last 24 hours.

There are 66,440 suspected cases accumulated in the country. In addition, since the beginning of the epidemic there have been 267,288 negatives. In total, 542,120 people have been studied in Mexico.

With confirmed infections to date, Mexico is in 11th place in the Johns Hopkins University ranking. It is surpassed by the United States, Brazil, Russia, India, the United Kingdom, Peru, Chile, Spain, Italy and Iran.

Hugo López-Gatell Ramírez, head of the Undersecretariat for Prevention and Health Promotion, said yesterday that he had warned for months that the COVID-19 epidemic would last at least until October in Mexico.

“Since February we said to prepare for a long epidemic, which will last until at least October 2020. We have this long epidemic because it is the beneficial consequence of having reduced daily infections, instead of a big curve, we have fewer cases for more time ”, he explained.

“We have said it on multiple occasions: prediction is valid if conditions such as reduced mobility are met. If mobility is not reduced, there are more cases, more infections and more pressure on hospitals, “he added.
