Many tourist workers in the Austrian resort are infected

eThe number of coronary infections in several travel companies in St. Wolfgang in Upper Austria has risen to at least 44. According to media reports, the victims were mostly employees on Sunday evening, but the virus was also found among holidaymakers. Most infected people are trainees.

Alois Lanz, Gmundes district captain, said: “We cannot say with certainty whether the infection occurred in the neighborhoods where they live, sleep and also eat, or whether it occurred in certain restaurants.” Some of the interns were in the two night clubs “13er Haus” and “W3”. Both companies will initially remain closed over the weekend.

By late evening, more than 600 people had been tested, both employees and vacation guests. So far 258 tests have been evaluated, further results are expected on Sunday.

On Saturday evening, the authorities ordered a curfew from 11:00 p.m. for local restaurants.

The outbreak is reminiscent of the Austrian ski and party town of Ischgl in Tyrol, which was the center of the Krone and spread throughout Europe in the early stages of the pandemic. A total of around 1,500 people are currently infected with the virus in Austria. Contact points for new infections are the federal states of Vienna and Upper Austria.
