The Greek state channel TV ERT announced the news this morning. Two groups of British tourists came to blows, Maguire was one of them. The police arrived and intervened, whereupon Maguire and 2 other British turned against the police.
“The footballer was verbally aggressive towards a police officer and also hit him,” said a police spokesman. “The three were rebellious when they were taken to Mykonos police station.”
Manchester United meanwhile confirmed the news and was already in touch with his player. “He is cooperating with the Greek authorities,” it said. The English club, who lost to Seville in the semi-final of the Europa League last weekend, did not want to lose more.
The international was bought away from Leicester City last summer for around 92 million euros by Manchester United, making it the most expensive defender ever.
