Manitoba COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations on the rise, but deaths on the decline | Coronavirus

According to the latest weekly report, Manitoba health authorities are seeing an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases, as well as the number of hospitalizations for the virus. Compared to previous weeks, however, the number of deaths has decreased.

Between September 11 and September 17, 87 Manitobans were hospitalized with COVID-19, compared to 65 hospitalizations counted in the previous report.

Conversely, admissions to intensive care have decreased, reaching 11.

Manitoba has also recorded two deaths from COVID-19. This is a steep drop from the week of September 4th to 10th.

Since the start of the pandemic, 2,143 Manitobans have lost their lives to the virus.

The number of cases is 377 for the week of 11 to 17 September. By way of comparison, the previous week it was 342.

However, this is an underestimate of the true number of cases in the province due to limited access to polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests, the only type of test whose data is recorded by public health.

While the province announced Wednesday that anyone over 18 can now receive the COVID-19 bivalent vaccine, the percentage of Manitobans over the age of five who are doubly vaccinated is 83 percent.

In terms of booster doses, 55.8% of BC residents over the age of 18 received at least one additional dose.

As of September 12, Winnipeg wastewater monitoring data indicated that COVID-19 was still present. Researchers also note an increase in activity during the last week of August.
