Manitoba announces 9 deaths from COVID-19 and 238 new cases

Three of the deaths are linked to nursing homes and one to the outbreak at Morris General Hospital, south of the provincial capital.

The victims were between 50 and 99 years old.

Here is the list of deaths announced on Saturday:

  • Winnipeg’s 50th anniversary
  • A 60-year-old from the northern health region
  • A septuagenarian from the Entre-les-Lacs and Est health region
  • A septuagenarian from the Santé Sud health region, in connection with the outbreak at Morris General Hospital

The 5-day positivity rate is 13.2% for the province and 12% for the Winnipeg area.

The 238 cases announced on Saturday bring to 22,630 the total number of cases detected in the province since the start of the pandemic.

Highlights:

  • 5668 active cases today
  • 16,406 people cured to date
  • 298 people in hospital, including 44 in intensive care
  • 556 deaths attributable to COVID-19

The number of active cases is overestimated due to delays in the checks needed to remove these cases from the provincial list, because public health is prioritizing contact tracing.

The province estimates that the majority of cases are no longer active 10 days after symptoms appear.

New infections by health region:

  • Winnipeg : 104
  • Prairie Mountain : 16
  • South Health: 30
  • Between the Lakes and the East: 33
  • North: 55

Since the beginning of February, 401,475 screening tests have been carried out, including 2502 on Friday. Investigations into these cases are ongoing and the public will be informed if there is a risk to public health.
