Filipino Doctor Attacked on NYC Subway, Narrowly Avoids Train
NEW YORK – A 44-year-old Filipino emergency room pediatrician was attacked and shoved onto the subway tracks at the 50th Street station in Manhattan on August 9th. According to a New York Police Department (NYPD) investigator, the doctor was waiting for the No. 1 train while heading home from work when a suspect assaulted him, punching and pushing him onto the tracks.
the incident occurred with an incoming train just four minutes away. Fast action by fellow passengers prevented a tragedy, as they pulled the doctor back onto the platform.
the victim sustained injuries to his head and feet and was transported to a hospital for treatment. He is now reported to be in stable condition, and, according to his friend Takayuki Matsumoto, “happy that he is still alive,” as reported by the New York Post.
The doctor is a graduate of the University of the Philippines College of Medicine and currently practices as an emergency room pediatrician.
The Philippine Consulate General in New York is attempting to contact the doctor and has offered to provide assistance if needed.
The NYPD has released surveillance video of the attack via NYPD Crime Stoppers. The suspect is seen in the footage wearing a backwards cap, a white T-shirt, black shorts, and carrying a backpack.
NYPD Crime Stoppers is requesting the public’s help in identifying and locating the suspect. Anyone with facts is urged to come forward.
