Teddy Sheringham is skeptical of the way Ole Gunnar Solskjær treats Manchester United striker Anthony Martial.
After Manchester United picked up Cristiano Ronaldo in this summer’s transfer window, Martial has fallen further behind in the queue for playing time for the big club.
This season he has only started two games for United, and came in as a substitute in five games. The Frenchman has still not scored for the club this season.
Former Manchester United player Teddy Sheringham thinks it seems that the 25-year-old “does not feel loved” at the club, which also means that he does not deliver the goods when he plays.

– Must feel loved
Sheringham believes, however, that Martial will return to great form if Solskjær starts to show him more confidence.
– It’s the same as with Harry Kane and Tammy Abraham. The striker needs to feel loved, he says Daily Mail.

The former great striker elaborates:
– If you do not feel loved and valued, if you feel you have one chance to do well in the Carabao Cup and if you do not, you will not come close to the Premier League matches, it puts pressure on you , he says.
Sheringham uses Abraham as an example who has found his way back to great form after being given time and trust by Roma manager Jose Mourinho.
– Tammy has traveled to Rome and Jose Mourinho has said “go in there, and if you miss chances you will not be taken off the team right away”. It makes you relaxed. Football players need to be relaxed in front of goal, he believes.
Sheringham thus believes that Solskjær does not treat Martial in a way that gives him self-confidence.
– When you are loved by a manager, you have that feeling. Martial is clearly not getting it at the moment because there are other players in front of him, he says.

– Horrible to look at
Martial has only played one full game this season, and that was in the League Cup match against West Ham a week ago. The match ended in a loss for United, and Martial received criticism after the match from Dion Dublin.
– I want to see him sweat and put the ball in goal. He has not done enough during his time at United. You see it in a flash and you think it’s the start of something, but then he does nothing, he says.

The Frenchman has previously been criticized for his body language during matches, something Dublin also noticed during the match against West Ham.
– His body language is horrible to look at. He does not want to run around and work hard to become Manchester United’s number 9, he says clearly.
Manchester United meet Villarreal in the Champions League on Wednesday night. Solskjær’s team lost the first match, and should preferably win Wednesday’s match so as not to get into trouble. The match starts at 21.00.
