Manchester United are set to let Jesse Lingard leave on loan in January for a £3.5m fee amid links with West Ham and Newcastle, as Magpies prepare a new offer.

Lingard enjoyed a good loan spell at West Ham in the second half of last season, however he remains a supporting player at Old Trafford.

He is due to become a free agent in June and talks about extending his contract with the Red Devils are dead.

talkSPORT understands that Man United are willing to let their player go on loan, but any interested club would have to pay £3.5m for his services.

Premier League contenders Newcastle are one of the clubs interested in Lingard, but a loan offer was rejected because he does not reach Man United’s asking price. Magpies are expected to return.

West Ham have been heavily linked with the 29-year-old England international, however it is unclear if a new rapprochement has been made.

West Ham’s productive season could play against them with Man United potentially reluctant to let one of their players go to a top-four rival.

Lingard has been at Man United since he was seven years old and talkSPORT also understands that he has shown reluctance to leave before the end of the season.

Meanwhile, Tottenham legend Clive Allen would like to see his former club back Lingard, arguing his addition could help Harry Kane rediscover his old form.

Allen told talkSPORT: “When he came to West Ham he was outstanding, when he spent time in East London.

“He is a talented player and right now the Spurs are looking for an injection. First, they need some creativity in that midfield area.

“Harry Kane looks a bit frustrated at the lack of opportunities created for him.

“Someone of Lingard’s caliber would be a fabulous addition.”
