Authorities in Broward County, Florida, arrested a man with mental problems accused of trying to end the life of a person originally from Cuba at a help center for people with these conditions.
According to the medium Local 10 Newsthe subject was identified as Jaime Anjelino Allende, 33 years old, who allegedly stabbed a man several times after hearing voices in his head that ordered him to “kill the Cuban.”
The events occurred last Thursday, April 18, when the detainee, who resided in an independent living center for people with mental illnesses in Fort Lauderdale, began to hear the voices in his head.
After these voices insistently ordered him to end the Cuban’s life, Allende took a knife from the kitchen and entered the victim’s room, attacking him several times on the head and neck while he was sleeping.
Agents from the Broward County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the scene, located in the 500 block of Northwest 9th Street in that city, and detained Allende, who insisted he had heard voices.
While the authorities did not reveal the name of the victim, it is known that the man is the only one of Cuban nationality who resided in the aforementioned center.
A roommate who was sleeping in the bedroom at the time of the attack stated that he was awakened by a noise, and managed to witness how the detainee attacked the victim.
According to the aforementioned media, it would have been Allende himself who contacted 911, stating that he would surrender to the authorities without resisting.
The man was arrested and now faces charges of attempted murder. For his part, the Cuban was rushed to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital, where he is admitted in critical condition.
According to statements from the authorities, the injuries sustained by the victim were very serious, so there is very little chance of his survival. If so, the charges against Allende would become first degree murder, which would increase his sentence.
