Man who killed eight people in New York in 2017 guilty of murder | Abroad

The man who drove a van into people in central New York in 2017 has been found guilty of eight counts of murder with terrorist intent. The man may be sentenced to death for this.

In addition to murder, the jury found the man, Sayfullo Saipov, guilty of multiple counts of attempted murder for the purpose of joining the Islamic State (IS) terror group. He would also have supported the terrorist organization with material. In addition, Saipov is also convicted of damaging a motor vehicle.

On October 31, 2017, Saipov rented a van and drove into a bike path in the Manhattan borough. A total of eight people died. It concerned two Americans, five Argentinians and a Belgian woman.

The man then drove his car into a school bus and fled. He was shot by a cop.

Now found guilty of murder, Saipov could face life in prison or the death penalty. The jury will meet again on February 6 to discuss the exact sentence.
