The victim is 24-year-old Bas from Badhoevedorp. Yesterday he was with friends on the beach at park De Oeverlanden, where many young people and families with children were looking to cool off.
It went wrong around 4.30 pm. A group of men tried to steal a Rolex watch from one of Bas’s friends, an acquaintance of the victim told De Telegraaf. When Bas said something about it, he was shot, the acquaintance says. “It is unbelievable that this has now killed him. Slaughtered, with several bullets in his body. For such a rotten watch …”

His death sparks support from friends and family. “The good die young. Rest in peace dear Bas, you are going to be missed …”, someone writes on Bas’s Instagram page. “A lot of strength for the relatives! This is really terrible. I don’t know you, but gosh, how shocked I am by this story.”
The police yesterday called up anyone who had taken photos or videos at the beach before 4.25 pm. “If you were at the bathing jetty in the hours prior to the shooting incident, please share your images with the police.”
