Jefferson City Man Sentenced in McClung Park Shooting
JEFFERSON CITY,Mo. (KMIZ) – A Jefferson City man has been sentenced to five years of supervised probation after pleading guilty to a felony charge stemming from a 2023 shooting at McClung Park.
Syvonn Byrd, of Jefferson City, entered a guilty plea on Tuesday for unlawful use of a weapon. He had initially faced more serious charges including first-degree assault and armed criminal action. according to previous reports, a witness identified Byrd as the shooter, alleging he displayed a firearm and discharged it during a party on October 5th.Law enforcement corroborated this account with video evidence.
The shooting, which injured two people, involved multiple individuals. Laquan Boose, also of Jefferson City, previously pleaded guilty on October 9th to accessory to unlawful use of a weapon and received a similar sentence of five years supervised probation. He was originally charged with more extensive offenses including accessory to first-degree assault and resisting arrest.
Raymond White-Murry, of Fulton, pleaded guilty in 2024 to aiding and abetting a shooting and was also sentenced to five years of supervised probation, having initially been charged with aiding and abetting and armed criminal action.
Another suspect, Dayjuan Crossland, remains charged with accessory to first-degree assault, accessory to unlawful use of a weapon, and armed criminal action. He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, November 10th at 9 a.m. Reports indicate Crossland was injured during the incident, which unfolded during an argument at a party attended by approximately 100 people. Investigators recovered at least three different calibers of ammunition at the scene.
