Man runs over several people at Carnival parade in Germany | Accidents

A driver advanced this Monday on a Carnival parade in Volkmarsen, in central Germany, causing at least ten injuries. The city is more than 400 kilometers from Berlin.

Hesse state police (center) reported that the driver of the car was arrested, but according to the newspaper The Guardian, is not yet able to confirm whether the incident was premeditated. On the spot, a major emergency operation was promptly set up. Among the injured will be children who participated in the Carnival parade.

The incident occurred in the early afternoon in the city of Volkmarsen, some 280 kilometers southwest of Berlin. Through social networks, the local police called for restraint by residents when sharing images on the Internet, avoiding speculation and false information.

The newspaper Frankfurter Rundschau he quoted witnesses as saying that the driver of the vehicle bypassed a barrier that blocked traffic from the parade route, but that it was not clear whether he intended to reach the crowd.

The incident comes just days after a 43-year-old man shot and killed ten people in the German city of Hanau. The man, found dead at home shortly after the attack, had “Xenophobic motivations”.
