No. 2260
A man died last night in a fire in an apartment building in Schöneberg. A resident had alerted the fire brigade and the police of the house on Maaßenstraße around 20:50 because she had heard the signal of a smoke detector from a studio located there. Emergency services then searched the premises, but found smoke was coming from an apartment in the rear building adjacent to the studio. While trying to put out the fire in the apartment, a man was found dead, believed to be the tenant of the apartment, but has not yet been identified. Another resident of the house was taken to hospital for outpatient treatment with suspected smoke inhalation. A fire inspector’s office at the State Criminal Police Office has taken over the ongoing investigation into suspected manslaughter arson.
