The facts came on Friday but came to light on Wednesday, and the news went viral, with photos of the alley where the corpse was covered by wide open green umbrellas.
“Carrefour apologizes for the inadequate form with which it has handled the sad and unexpected death of Mr. Moises Santos, victim of a heart attack, in the store in Recife (Pernambouc). The company was wrong not to close the store immediately after the incident, pending the funeral service “, wrote the local subsidiary of the French group in a press release.
The company said the victim, working in the sales sector, had received first aid and called for medical assistance. Carrefour assured that after the death, the instruction was not to move the body.
The company apologized to the victim’s family.
The deceased’s wife identified him as Manoel Moises Cavalcante. “It outraged me. Human beings have no value, we are only interested in money. I think it’s a question of respect. (…) it’s a feeling horrible”, Odeliva Cavalcante told Brazilian news site G1.
Several netizens recalled on social media another incident that occurred in 2018 in Sao Paulo, when a vigilante at a Carrefour store beat a dog to death. The images had made a lot of noise on social media.
