When the drug test showed a positive result, a man pulled the mental emergency brake on the A3. In his escape he caused a lot of danger and some damage.

Wiesbaden – What began as a routine check ended on Saturday night (June 3) with a particularly wild chase through three federal states. A man suddenly fled and drove through Hesse on the A3 to Bavaria and back again, the police said on Saturday.

What happened? On the night of Saturday, the man is said to be heading in his jeep on the A3 Frankfurt having driven his car in snaking lines. Police officers discovered the car at the Medenbach service area in Wiesbaden. The 50-year-old apparently slept in the car and was woken up by the police. He voluntarily endured a breath alcohol test as well as a drug test. While the alcohol test was negative, the drug test was positive.

When the officials informed him of the result, the man jumped into the car and raced across a green strip onto the A3. According to the report, a police officer suffered minor injuries when he tried to stop the man. While driving, the 50-year-old threw objects out of the car, which damaged a patrol car, it said. A helicopter was temporarily deployed from the air to pursue the jeep driver.

Across Hesse: escape from the police at up to 220 km/h

His escape took the man across the border to Bavaria, where he exited onto the B26 in the direction of Aschaffenburg. Shortly thereafter, however, he changed his mind again. In Babenhausen (Darmstadt-DIeburg district), he turned around, drove through several red traffic lights and found his way back to the A3 in the direction of Cologne in Seligenstadt (Offenbach district), the police said.

During the chase, the car ran into oncoming traffic several times, drove through several red lights and collided with a construction site barrier. Speeds of up to 220 kilometers per hour were reached.

When the man reached Rhineland-Palatinate, he left the autobahn and stopped at a rest stop. Because he resisted arrest there, he was slightly injured. Police said they found a small amount of drugs in his car. The man’s car and driver’s license were secured. (esa/dpa)
