Man beheaded in suburb of Paris, suspect shot dead by police | NOW

A man was stabbed and beheaded in a suburb of Paris on Friday. The suspect was shot dead by the police shortly afterwards. He is said to have shouted “Allahu Akbar”, but a police spokesman could not confirm that yet. The prosecutor for terror cases is investigating.

According to French police, the victim was a high school teacher. Sources tell the news agency Reuters that he had shown his students cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed.

The incident took place on Friday in the suburb of Conflans Sainte Honorine, in northwestern Paris.

After the incident, the suspect threatened the police with a knife. They shot him there. A little later he passed away.

French President Emmanuel Macron will visit the site where the teacher was murdered later.

More frequent attacks in France

In recent years there have been more terrorist attacks in France with blasphemy as the motive. In September, two people were killed injured at the former headquarters of the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo.

A major terror attack took place at that office in 2015, in which twelve people were killed. Published cartoons of the Prophet were the reason for this attack.
