Man (78) died of heart attack: ‘My father could not get help’ | Inland

Due to the corona crisis in healthcare, the man could not be admitted. There were no beds available, Eenvandaag reports. Caroline van Blerkom’s father, Koos, became unwell in a supermarket. At home he lay down on his bed, but his condition deteriorated. 112 was called and Koos turned out to have to go to the emergency room. He was only able to go to the third hospital, but there he died soon after arrival. “At the time, we didn’t even know where the ambulance was going with my father.”

Daughter Caroline emphasizes that it is not entirely clear how crucial those last minutes were. “But of course it didn’t help.”

No goodbyes

“My father was 78 years old and in excellent health. He still worked in a supermarket, with great pleasure. It is difficult for us to understand that he is no longer here and that we could not say goodbye. He died alone ”, she tells the current affairs program.

The ‘second wave’ is increasing the pressure on healthcare. The number of corona patients in Dutch hospitals has increased by 109 in one day. The total number of patients with Covid-19 is now 2,358, of whom 529 are so badly off that they are in intensive care. That is an increase of 23 compared to Monday. Two IC patients are in Germany.
