Man (31) gets stray bullet in the head and dies during vacation with loved one in Atlanta | Abroad

Matthew Wilson is a British postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Astrophysics, Geophysics and Oceanography at the University of Liège. He died on Jan. 16, while on vacation in Atlanta, the university reports.

Wilson was in Atlanta visiting Katherine Shepherd, the woman he had been in a LAT relationship with for three years. He was sitting on the bed at her house when he was suddenly hit in the head by a stray bullet.

Before he was hit, Shepherd went to take a look at the window because she heard shots. When she heard some loud bangs, Shepherd went to look through the window. “I told Matthew I was going to call the police,” the woman told the British newspaper The Sun. “He replied: Go ahead, although I’m sure they’re just messing around.”

‘I saw immediately that he was hit’

Immediately after, another shot was fired. “I heard a small explosion on the side of the bed,” says the American woman. “I remember when a piece of the wall hit my leg. When I turned on the light, I saw that Matthew had collapsed. I immediately saw that he had been hit in the head.”

The woman did everything she could to stop the bleeding and called 911, but all help came too late. “I begged him to stay with me, but nothing could help him.”

Wilson died in hospital from his injuries. No suspects have yet been arrested in the shooting.
