Malta records first zero cases of Covid-19 infection in 11 months

“Today is the first day with zero cases since last summer. It is very important that we maintain discipline and responsibility,” he said in a statement on his Twitter account, as reported by Reuters on Monday (7/6/2021).

The news comes as Malta allows bars, cinemas and theaters to reopen as part of the government’s schedule to progressively lift restrictions announced months ago.

Malta last recorded zero cases on July 25. However, after that the cases of Covid-19 infections gradually increased, jumping to 510 in March before falling again.

Malta is also the country with the highest vaccination rates in the European Union (EU), with more than half of the adult population now fully vaccinated and 75% having had at least the first dose.
