Mallorca defends being a safe and sustainable destination

A delegation from Consell de Mallorca and its tourism sector have defended this Monday in the German city of Frankfurt the island’s fortress as safe tourist destination and sustainable

During the first day of the trip to Germany, which consisted of a press conference and a working session with representatives of the tourism sector as well as a meeting with the turoperador Of tourism, the Mallorcan delegation has ensured that the island is in an excellent situation to welcome visitors again due to its health situation.

«From the perspective of the hotel management, the preparation and situation of hotel establishments for prevention against covid has been transferred. The level of openness of the Mallorcan hotel plant is close to 55% and according to the tour operator Der Touristik regarding Mallorca the prospects are positive, since reservations are advancing every week ”, has indicated the Mallorca Hotel Business Federation (FEHM), chaired by María Frontera, member of the delegation to Germany.

«Mallorca is a safe, sustainable, innovative and quality destination. A destination that, despite the pandemic, has not lost any of the attractions that during all these years have kept it as a favorite for German tourists, our most important source market, ”said the president of the Consell de Mallorca, Catalina Cladera , on a note.

Cladera has also highlighted the firm commitment to sustainability as a lever to improve the island’s tourism model.

In this sense, he highlighted the importance of being part of the network of sustainable tourism observatories of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and of having the management quality certificate granted by this same international organization, UNWTO.Quest.

For his part, Nacho García, general director of Planning and Pharmacy of the Government, has indicated that Mallorca registered an accumulated index of 14 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last week, and has highlighted the island’s health network has four hospitals public, 45 primary care centers and a wide 061 care network.

The president of the FEHM, María Frontera, highlighted the professionalism of the hotel sector, citing the fact of organizing a return operation for those tourists who were surprised by the disease while on vacation in Mallorca.

Frontera has assured that currently half of the hotels are open and that each week the percentage increases by approximately 10%, depending on the level of reservations.

«From the FEHM we consider the organization of this type of initiatives positively because, in addition to transmitting a unified message and of public-private cooperation in a destination as important for Mallorca as German, it allows doing it in a direct way and solving and attending to all the consultations in real time “, has indicated the employer’s association
In 2018 Mallorca received 4,302,465 tourists from Germany (35.1% of the total) and in 2019, 4,170,471 tourists (35% of the total), which meant a decrease of 131,994 tourists despite the fact that the Tourist spending on the German market in 2018 was 143.31 euros per person per day, and in 2019 it was 151.21 euros, which according to the employers’ is a clear indication of the trend in recent years in which Mallorca has grown more in value than in volume ”.

The FEHM has also pointed out that in 2019 it found the island’s trend to grow more in value than in volume since, despite the fact that there were fewer travelers from Germany, the expense was higher. But in 2020 the trend could not be consolidated as the COVID pandemic broke out and led tourism to the biggest crash in its history

“The objective now is to progressively recover the market share, starting from the fact that 2021 (you must mean 2020) 665,068 Germans visited us and in this 2021 it is the best positioned market”, pointed out the FEHM.
