Malaysian Research Results: Sinovac Vaccine Effective, Pfizer And AstraZeneca Better

Kuala Lumpur, RNC – People no longer need to be vaccinated. This is because research shows that vaccines are very effective in preventing Covid-19.

Research in Malaysia provides evidence that the Sinovac Covid-19 vaccine from China is effective in protecting recipients from severe symptoms of SARS-CoV-2 infection or severe illness. However, the research also states that the Pfizer/BioNTech and AstraZeneca vaccines provide an even higher level of protection.

Reporting from Tempo.com, the research was conducted in Malaysia after the efficacy of the Sinovac vaccine, produced by a Chinese pharmaceutical company, came under the spotlight. Because of this, medical personnel in Indonesia, as well as Thailand, have reportedly been infected with the Covid-19 corona virus, even though they have been injected with the vaccine.

The research found that only 0.011 percent of the approximately 7.2 million people who were injected with the Sinovac vaccine still required treatment in the hospital intensive care unit (ICU) when they contracted Covid-19. In contrast, the number of Pfizer and AstraZeneca dose recipients admitted to the ICU due to Covid-19 infection was 0.002 and 0.001 percent, respectively.

The research was carried out by the Institute for Clinical Research together with the National Task Force for Handling Covid-19. “Vaccination, with vaccines made by any pharmaceutical company, has reduced the risk of people being admitted to the ICU by 83 percent,” said Kalaiarasu Peariasamy, director of the institute, Thursday (23/9/2021).

In addition, Kalaiarasu added, vaccination also reduces the risk of death by 88 percent. This percentage was found in a smaller study involving 1.26 million people.

Meanwhile, in people who had been vaccinated with the full dose, their percentage of being admitted to the ICU shrank to 0.0066 percent. The death rate is 0.01 percent, and even then most are those who are over 60 years old or who have congenital diseases.

Malaysia has so far fully vaccinated 58.7 percent of its 32 million population, and administered at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine to 68.8 percent of the population.
