Ahmedabad: England won the toss and elected to bat in the third Test against India. Gujarat’s own Akshar Patel was the star of the first day at the renovated ground named as Narendra Modi Stadium. Akshar Patel took six wickets as England were bowled out for 112. Akshar Patel took six wickets for just 38 runs. R Ashwin took three wickets and Ishant Sharma one.

With the exception of opener Zack Crowley, who scored a half-century, no one else shone in the England line-up. Crowley hit 53 off 84 balls. Only four batsmen in the England batting line-up saw two wickets. England suffered heavy setbacks from the start. Dominic Sibley (7 not out) and Johnny Bairstow (9 not out) were the first to come out on top. Soon after, Captain Joe Root was out for 17 runs. Meanwhile, Zack Crowley, who had scored a half – century from one end, was sent off.

Victory in today’s match is essential for both teams to compete in the final of the World Test Championship. With a win and a draw in the remaining two Tests, India can reach the final of the World Test Championship.

The two teams have won each Test in a four – match Test series. In the first two Tests at Chennai Chepauk, England won the first Test by 227 runs and India by 317 runs in the second Test. India bowled out Jaspreet Bumra, Ishant Sharma, Ravichandran Ashwin and Akshar Patel in the third Test.

The third Test between India and England will be played at the renovated Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad. This is the first international match to be played at the stadium, which has been renamed as Narendra Modi Stadium. Formerly known as Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s Stadium, it has been renamed as Narendra Modi Stadium after its renovation.

The stadium was built in 1982. Initially, the stadium could seat 49,000 people. The stadium is spread over 63 acres and houses an indoor cricket academy. It has a dormitory facility for 40 athletes, a state-of-the-art gymnasium, six indoor practice pitches and three outdoor practice fields. The renovated Motera Stadium also has enough dressing rooms to accommodate up to four teams at a time.
