Alappuzha: A crack in the footpath of the Alappuzha bypass, which was opened after a 48-year wait. The crack found above the footpath at Malikamukku was inspected by the National Highways Chief Engineer. The test was performed using a device called a profometer. The preliminary conclusion of the top officials is that the bypass is not damaged. The current cracks will be monitored for two weeks to see if they are getting bigger. This is the part where the first phase of the bypass was built two decades ago.

The inspection, which began Thursday afternoon, lasted about three hours. The locals saw a crack under the concrete of the north footpath of the 2 footpaths constructed at Malikamukku yesterday. On the same day, the National Highways Department conducted a preliminary inspection. After the inspection, officials said the paint was tainted. The National Highways Department conducted an expert inspection after a thread-like crack was later found in nearby areas.

Chief Engineer M Ashok Kumar from Thiruvananthapuram, Alappuzha The inspection was carried out in the presence of Executive Engineer R Anilkumar. A single crack about five meters long has been found. There are four small cracks.

The profometer is used to eliminate the old method of drilling concrete. This allows cracks in the concrete to be detected quickly. This test is similar to scanning the human body. The inspection can identify the iron part inside and the missing part. A red light will appear when you reach the wired part. Marking there for two weeks can help determine if the crack is growing.

The Alappuzha bypass was handed over to Nadu on January 28 by Union Surface Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The bypass was completed at an investment of over Rs 350 crore with the equal participation of the Central and State Governments. Forty years later, the dream of starting in 1987 is coming true. The Central and State Governments have spent Rs 172 crore each on the project. The State has spent an additional `25 crore for the construction of railway overbridges and modernization of junctions.

The length of the bypass is 6.8 km. Of this, 4.8 km is elevated highway and 3.2 km is flyover. The weight test of the bridge was completed. The specialty of Alappuzha beach is that you can travel through the bypass while enjoying the beauty.
