Malaria is experiencing a resurgence across southern Africa, wiht Botswana, Eswatini, Namibia, and Zimbabwe reporting notable outbreaks.

Africa CDC highlights a dramatic increase in malaria cases in Zimbabwe. By epidemiological week 23 of 2025, Zimbabwe had recorded 111,998 cases and 310 deaths, a stark contrast to the 29,031 cases and 49 deaths reported during the same period in 2024. extended rainfall has facilitated mosquito breeding, while activities like gold panning and fishing expose vulnerable populations, notably during peak mosquito activity hours.

In Zimbabwe, 115 out of 1,705 health facilities have been impacted, demonstrating the widespread strain on healthcare infrastructure. Mashonaland Central province has reported 32% of all malaria cases since the start of 2025, with Manicaland accounting for 25% of malaria-related deaths.
