Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – A study says that the latest Covid-19 mRNA vaccine developed by China is said to be effective in provoking human immunity to the corona virus. Unmitigated, the vaccine can trigger an immune response in as many as 95% of recipients.
In a report published Monday (24/1/2022), the conclusion was reached after the vaccine, known as ARCoV, passed a phase one clinical trial at Shulan Hospital in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province. The trial recruited 120 healthy adults aged 18 to 59 years to be randomly assigned to receive either a vaccine shot or a placebo.
Then, the subjects were divided into groups who took different vaccine doses ranging between five micrograms (mcg) and 25mcg. Noted, 118 participants received two doses with a distance of 28 days.
“Neutralizing antibodies were found among 80% to 95% of participants taking two doses of the vaccine, varying with the dose they received,” the report said. Straits Times.
“The group that received the 20mcg injection showed the highest antibody-positive rates, up to 95%.”
In the study, it was also mentioned that the vaccine recipients experienced mild side effects. Even so, not a single severe side effect was reported among the participants.
Meanwhile, ARCoV is also reportedly in phase three trials in Mexico, Indonesia and Nepal. However, so far there have been no releases listing the results from phase two and three studies.
The ARCoV vaccine is a vaccine that was jointly developed by Walvax Biotechnology, Suzhou Abogen Bioscience and the PLA Academy of Military Science. The vaccine uses mRNA technology which means that it works by genetically engineered cells to induce antibodies.
Besides ARCoV, China is also developing other mRNA vaccines, such as the vaccine made by Zhuhai Lifanda Biotechnology. Currently, the Covid-19 vaccine is also undergoing clinical trials.
China itself has done a lot of development and design of a Covid-19 vaccine. One of the well-known and used in Indonesia is the vaccine made by Sinovac and Sinpoharm. However, this vaccine uses ordinary dead cell technology instead of mRNA.
