Berlin The majority of Germans are against a return of spectators to the Bundesliga stadiums this season.
According to a representative survey by the opinion research institute YouGov on behalf of the German Press Agency, 61 percent of German citizens do not want football fans to be allowed into the arenas again before the end of the season in May. Before the consultations between Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) and the country chiefs on how to proceed in the Corona crisis on Wednesday, only 23 percent of those surveyed were in favor of opening the stadium gates to spectators again soon.
At the end of October of the previous year, the federal and state governments decided to completely exclude fans again in view of the increasing number of corona cases. Since then, the Bundesliga, like all other professional leagues, has played in front of empty ranks again. Most recently, the German Football League, together with other organizations from sport and culture, supported a concept by experts and scientists that is intended to enable spectators to return under strict hygiene and infection protection measures.
