Due to a malfunction at Telenet, a number of large hospitals cannot be reached by phone on Thursday morning. “A technical problem arose during an upgrade of the system in the night from Wednesday to Thursday,” says Isabelle Geeraerts, spokeswoman for Telenet.
“We are in contact with affected customers to help them become available again,” it says. UZ Gent has already set up an alternative number, 09 398 50 00. Other emergency services ask to use the emergency numbers 112 or 101.
In addition to the University Hospital of Ghent, UZ Leuven on the Gasthuisberg campus cannot be reached by telephone on Thursday morning. Anyone who calls the general number will also receive an English message there that the number is currently unreachable.
In the Antwerp region, the hospital networks ZNA and GZA, among others, cannot be reached by telephone on Thursday morning. They ask to call the emergency number 112 for urgent assistance. The Blue Line of the Antwerp local police and the Antwerp Fire Brigade are also not accessible. The police refers to the emergency number 101 for urgent assistance and to the e-mail address firstname.lastname@example.org for non-urgent reports.
