Mainz – Environment: The completion work on the Laubenheimer Aue, which had been interrupted by vandalism, was resumed this week.

As a result of the severe damage from an oil trail and from driving heavy equipment on, the compaction of the soil that has been caused must now be removed. The oil contaminated material has already been removed. Likewise, the damaged trees and bushes were replaced immediately after the incident.

The already completed sowing with ecologically high quality hay mulch in the southern section needs to be almost completely renewed. A special seed mixture will soon be planted in the former entrance area of the campsite, because the soil mixed with concrete residues is regularly flooded by floods and is also exposed to strong sunlight. It is therefore considered an extreme location.

Project manager Simone Janas: “We hope that this concrete-bonded surface will turn green over time. We therefore ask for the patience of the population and for the area not to be entered for the next eight weeks. Because nature needs time to develop well under the currently very dry conditions. “
On the construction site, which also includes the adjacent bank, it goes without saying that entry is still prohibited. This also applies to open fire.

As soon as nature has recaptured the area, it will be released to the public. A festive inauguration is planned for this.
