Mahfud MD threatens to revoke MNC permissions to Viva Group which refuses ASO

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

The coordinating minister for political, legal and security affairs (Menko Polhukam), Mahfud MD, stressed that the government has revoked the permission of radio stations (ISR) for “stubborn” television stations that continue to broadcast. analog.

“There are several private TV broadcasters that are still in quotes that don’t follow or in quotes again, stubbornly following the government’s decision, namely RCTI, Global TV, MNC TV, Inews TV, ANTV and monitored by TV One and Cahaya TV, Mahfud said in a statement a video uploaded to the Youtube account of the Ministry of Coordination for Political, Legal and Security Affairs.

Mahfud stressed that the ASO is a statutory order and has been prepared and coordinated, including with all television owners.

“Therefore, for those who are technically stubborn, we made a license revocation letter for radio stations or ISRs dated November 2 yesterday,” Mahfud said.

“So if you are still broadcasting in analog, it can be considered illegal and against the applicable law,” Mahfud pointed out.

Mahfud himself was present at the Analog Switch Off Countdown event at Kemenkominfo’s office on Wednesday. He was present with the Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Johnny G. Plate

In his speech, Mahfud said Indonesia was actually lagging behind in starting the ASO compared to other ASEAN countries. Not only that, Mahfud also said, Indonesia has been preparing for this migration since 2007 by involving stakeholders in the field of television broadcasting.

“The experimentation of digital broadcasting began in 2008. Since then, the government has continued to prepare for the transition from analog to digital through the preparation of a legal umbrella, the development and development of the digital broadcasting infrastructure,” he said. Mahfud said yesterday.

The legal umbrella for the implementation of the ASO is enshrined in the Job Creation Act of 2020. Article 60A (1) of the Job Creation Act states that “Transmission is carried out following developments technologies, including the migration of broadcasting from analogue to digital technology “.

Article (2) reads “The migration of terrestrial television broadcasts from analogue technology to digital technology referred to in paragraph (1) and the cessation of analogue broadcasts (analogue shutdown) must be completed no later than 2 (two) years from entry into force of this law.

Therefore, Mahfud warned still “stubborn” TV stations to comply with this regulation immediately.

“Therefore, please obey this so that the government does not need to take measures of a police rather than administrative nature. Remember that analog shutdown is an international decision,” he said.

CNNIndonesia.com contacted MNC TV and ANTV regarding this release from the coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs via Whatsapp messages. However, there were no related party responses until this news was revealed.

Previously, the Minister of Communications and Information, Johnny G. Plate, had also warned television stations that still broadcast analog to migrate immediately.

“I noticed technically not everything on the right is off, on the left is on, on the right is analog, on the left is digital,” Plate said at the countdown event last night.

“There are those on the right who are not dead, I hope in their cooperation, I ask for the cooperation of the relevant authorities including the authorized team to discuss and approach and resolve it well, because this is for the sake of the national television industry and our public service. Nothing is personal, “he said again.
