Magazine: The usual return schedule to Porziņģis in the case of a road operation is three to four months

For Latvian basketball player Kristaps Porziņģis, the Dallas Mavericks Club of the National Basketball Association (NBA) club, recovery from lateral knee meniscus surgery could take three to four months, the US sports magazine Sports Illustrated reported on Monday.

It has already been reported that Porziņģis suffered a meniscus injury on August 17 in the first match of the NBA playoffs in Orlando, in which the Mavericks conceded to the Los Angeles CIippers with a score of 110: 118. Later in the series, the Clippers celebrated with a 4-2 victory. It is estimated that with the Latvian basketball players, the Mavericks would have a better chance of beating the Los Angeles team.

The operation was performed for a Latvian basketball player on October 10, but the time required for rehabilitation was not mentioned at that time.

The magazine mentions that the Mavericks have not announced a possible schedule for returning to Porziņģis Square, and quotes Rajžpal Brar, a specialist in this type of injury.

“Typically, high-level elite athletes who undergo lateral meniscus ‘repairs’ have an average return schedule of about three to four months,” says Brars.

“Assuming that the NBA season starts in the middle of January, Porziņģis will be on the field in the first game of the season or soon after,” predicts the doctor.

There is a possibility that the NBA could start the 2020/2021 season on December 22. If that happens, one of the Dallas club leaders could skip the first three weeks of the season, Brars notes,

It is estimated that the team leader, Slovenian Lukas Dončič, will further improve his performance, and assuming that the club will improve its lineup in the off-season, the team should successfully overcome Porziņģis’ lack of a few weeks.

The columns of the magazine express the belief that in order to achieve success, Porziņģis club will need to be completely healthy in order to become a champion title candidate next season.

In 57 regular championship games of the Mavericks last season, Porziņģis finished with an average of 20.4 points, 9.5 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 2.0 block throws in the game, playing almost 32 minutes in a match.

From January 31 to the end of the season, his performance was even more impressive, averaging 26.7 points per game, winning 10.5 rebounds, making 2.4 assists and blocking throws 2.1 times in the game, aiming for 50% two-point accuracy , 40% in three-point and 90% free throws.
