Madrid confirms more than 5,000 positive inmates in residences | Madrid

The Community of Madrid has sent to Public Health the results of 13,750 rapid tests of covid-19 carried out on inmates in residences in the region, of which 5,093 have tested positive, according to the data to which EFE has had access.

It is the data of inmates and does not include workers from these centers. Government sources told Efe that the tests for workers should be requested “from the occupational risk prevention service”, although it is planned to test the employees of these centers once they have been carried out “on all health professionals”. For the inmates, a total of 28,000 tests have been distributed so far, which would not cover the entire population of these centers. On May 1, the Community notified the Government that there were 42,956 people in their residences; In March, 52,031 resided in the 475 senior centers alone.

So far, the Community of Madrid has estimated at 5,828 deaths from coronavirus or suspected of having it since March 8 in residences in the region, out of a total of 7,337 deaths registered during that time in these centers, according to the latest figures. facilitated by the Ministry of Social Policies, sent last Friday to the Ministry of Health. It is a data that is updated twice a week and includes, in addition to nursing homes, 235 for people with disabilities and mental illness.

From March 8 to last Friday, 1,126 users of Madrid residences died with confirmed covid-19 and 4,702 with symptoms of having it (which would not have been tested). These figures are not reflected in the daily count data of deaths with coronavirus from the Ministry of Health, since in this case Madrid provides deaths in hospitals with confirmed PCR or clinical diagnosis of COVID-19.

The pandemic has hit nursing homes across Europe. In Madrid one in 10 residents has died. This Monday the Community received a new judicial setback: the Superior Court of Justice reiterates to the Community of Madrid the obligation to medicalize the four senior centers in Alcorcón and requires a weekly report. Mortality in the centers for the elderly has questioned a business that invoices 4.5 billion euros in Spain and that had attracted risk capital due to its high profitability.
