Madhyamam: FIFA Increases World Cup Player Release Fees to INR 2,918 Crore for Clubs

FIFA has given a record increase in the amount paid to clubs that release players to the national teams to play in the World Cup. It has been decided to increase the amount paid up to the Qatar World Cup by 70 percent and pay 35.5 crore dollars (Rs 2,918 crore) each for the 2026 and 2030 World Cups. The increase is in line with a newly signed memorandum of understanding between FIFA and the European Clubs Association.

The 2026 World Cup will be jointly organized by the US, Canada and Mexico. The clubs will get money for the players representing different countries here.

A total of 32 teams including 12 from Europe have been decided to play in the next Club World Cup. It will be implemented from 2025 onwards. More details will be decided in the coming days. The Women’s Club World Cup is also starting.

The FIFA meeting, which approved several reforms, proposed a competition between the Champions League title winners and the team that won the playoffs between other continents.

At the same time, top clubs have objected to FIFA coming up with new changes. Juventus, Real Madrid and Barcelona teams, who had already gone ahead with the European Super League project, are in the field with the voice of opposition.
