Maastricht launches record with rap legend Snoop Dogg | 1Limburg

A girl’s dream that has become reality for Maastricht singer Frederique Hochstenbag. She left for America in 2019 to conquer the music industry.

And it worked. The single was released within a year under her stage name Odillia End Of The World uit, that stormed the charts in America.

New single
Her latest record has been out since the beginning of October, Break It Down. Before that she worked with none other than the American rapper Snoop Dogg.

But it was certainly not an easy road, says Hochstenbag on Friday evening L1mburg Central.

Day in day out
Before the singer left for the metropolis on the west coast of America, she worked on her music for ten years. So she was not empty-handed at the record labels.

“I wanted to sign with Interscope Records, because I have been a fan of that since childhood. And so I was at the door every day”, says Hochstenbag. But she did not receive an invitation. She decided to come up with tactics to get in and waited for the label’s ‘music bosses’. She was not thanked for that. They didn’t even want to hear her yet and dismissed her.

The big stars
It was time for plan B. She looked for places where the big music stars meet. In a hotel bar she bumped into her manager and then the ball started rolling.

Bare
She hit the studio with Snoop Dogg, known for his songs like Still D.R.E., The Next Episode in Drop It Like It’s Hot. There was the number Break It Down born. Striking detail: a lot of exposure in the clip. But that’s not necessarily the way to make it in Los Angeles, according to Hochstenbag. The bare part happens to fit the song that was made, says the singer.

It’s all about music
Hochstenbag largely lives in Los Angeles and is busy with music 24/7. She also has very little social life, it is hard work. “I spend a lot of time in the studio working on collaborations. And now with corona it’s a bit more difficult. Otherwise I would have had shows too.”

Incomprehension
Yet her parents had a different vision of the future. “I did not follow the ‘normal’ road. I had a different vision: making music. And my family did not understand that at first, but now they are happy with the result”, the singer explains.

To the top
Hochstenbag does not like to leave the city of the angels. Her collaboration with Snoop Dogg makes you want more. In five years she hopes to be on stage with Lady Gaga, Beyoncé and Rihanna.
