Maan will have its own mobile network

Space agency NASA has ordered the installation of the first cellular network on the Moon. The Finnish telecom company Nokia is responsible for building the network.

Nokia reports this on Monday. The LTE / 4G technology will be used as part of it Artemis program from NASA, which aims to ensure a long-term human presence on the Moon by the end of this decade.

Nokia is partnering with the American company Intuitive Machines and plans to integrate the network into its lunar lander. The technology should be rolled out by the end of 2022. The network should allow for data transfer for monitoring functions, remote control of lunar rovers, real-time navigation and streaming HD video.

Within the Artemis program, NASA wants to bring the first woman and again a man to the Moon by 2024. The acquired knowledge will then be used for the next big step, namely sending astronauts to Mars.
