“Lynx” lost four sets in the Baltic League semi-finals

Latvian champion Jēkabpils “Lūšu” volleyball players lost to Sāmsala on Friday in the semi-final game of “Credit24” championship league.

With a result of 1-3 (21:25, 23:25, 31:29, 22:25), the residents of Jēkabpils gave in to the tournament hostess “Saaremaa” team.

In the ranks of “Lynxes”, Kristaps Šmits was the most productive with 16 points, Vladislavs Blumbergs scored 14 points, two of them in the block, but Gustav Freimanis had 11 points and three points with the block.

The winners had 23 points for Kate Pupart, but 21 points were added by Hindre Regiment.

In the fight for bronze, “Lynx” will compete on Saturday with Tallinn “Selver” – Tartu “Bigbank” duel loser.

Jēkabpils secured the place in the semi-final after two victories in the quarter-finals over the “RTU Robežsardze” / ”Jūrmala” team. Meanwhile, Saaremaa twice dealt with Klaipeda’s Amber Volley.

Both teams have met twice this season. On Saaremaa, the home team celebrated the victory in three sets, but in Jēkabpils, the “lynx” revived with 3-2. At the beginning of the season, the islanders had a different line-up, later several foreigners left the team. However, this did not prevent Kuressaare volleyball players from winning the main tournament of the Baltic League.

While the people of Jēkabpils became the champions of Latvia, the islanders also reached the finals in the Estonian championship, where Tartu “Bigbank” gave in. In the semi-finals, “Saaremaa” defeated the main favorite of the Baltic League, Tallinn “Selver”, which was suppressed by the illness with Covid-19.

This season, ten teams started the Credit24 Championship – five from Estonia, four from Latvia and two from Lithuania.-

Two Latvian teams “Biolars” / “Jelgava” and “Daugavpils University” / “Ezerzeme” ended their participation in the league Covid-19 this season due to restrictions in the middle of the season.

At the end of March last year, due to the proliferation of Covid-19, the organizers of the tournament decided not to play in the “Final four” tournament, as a result of which the champions were not crowned.
