sport">Earlier on Friday, the new general manager Marcel Brands gave the impression that the talks were going very difficult and that it was still questionable whether it would work, but early in the evening a web editor of the FC Sevilla website pressed a wrong button. as a result of which a message came online mentioning an agreement in principle with PSV about a transfer from De Jong.

sport">The post was quickly removed, but it turned out not to be the work of a hacker but a prematurely published official press release. De Jong has already successfully completed his medical examination in Eindhoven and will most likely join the training camp in Germany that starts on Monday.

Back in Eindhoven

sport">Luuk de Jong, who will turn 32 this summer, previously played for PSV between 2014 and 2019. During that period, he scored 112 goals in 204 matches and provided 56 assists. De Jong, taken over from Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2014 for 5.5 million euros, was sold to FC Sevilla in 2019 for 12.5 million euros. The Spanish club, where he still had a one-year contract, used an asking price of 6 million euros, an amount that PSV initially hated because the striker will no longer have any residual value given his age.

sport">De Jong was loaned to FC Barcelona last season for which he scored 7 goals in 29 matches. For Sevilla, the former player of De Graafschap, FC Twente, Borussia Mönchengladbach and Newcastle United scored 19 goals in 94 matches, including two goals in the Europa League final that Sevilla won in 2020.
