Luis Zahera was the winner of the Goya at best supporting actor at the Goya Awards last year. But his story began much earlier, in Santiago de Compostela, where he was born. It started in the series’Spring tides’ and from there, he has had the roles of bad bad, regular bad, narco, friend of narcos and the like. This is how we see him on Telecinco every Monday in the series ‘Live without permission’, being Ferro, the faithful squire of Nemo Bandeira.
Since his first short film, ‘El matachín’ directed by Jorge Coira and in which Luis Tosar also acted, he already started being the bad guy. “I have the theory that you start from one thing and they already throw it around”, Luis says and adds: “We are a country that tends to pigeonhole.”
Luis Zahera always says that he loves his profession and he remembers perfectly the day he fell in love with the theater: on February 12, 1982, when his sister Angeles took him to the theater to see the play ‘Angelica on the threshold of heaven’. “It seemed like magic to me and I came home saying I wanted to be an actor,” remember.
If we have to applaud Luis Zahera it is for having tried the impossible; by give life to unpresentable characters with whom, in the end, it is usually empathized. Luis admits that his aspect of evil in fiction has given him the odd anecdote in reality because the public believes that he is just as out-of-camera on the edge. “You have to be nice because we live on people, on the public”, Explain.
With the rise of television platforms, he recognizes that he has a large volume of work because, as his nephews say, “This is not a time of change, but a change of time”. Luis Zahera says that he cannot cope, and maintains that everything has changed and not only the product, but also the way of directing. In addition to his acting role, Zahera is also monologue. “It is a format that I like, but I don’t know why I only do it in Galicia,” he says.
