UEFA Suspends Bayern Munich’s Luis Díaz for Three champions League Matches Following Injury to Achraf Hakimi
Bayern Munich winger Luis Díaz (28) has been handed a three-match ban by UEFA for a foul on Paris Saint-Germain’s Achraf Hakimi (27) during a Champions League match in early November. The tackle resulted in a serious ankle sprain for Hakimi, sidelining the Moroccan international until the end of the year.
Díaz scored two goals in the first 32 minutes of the match at the Parc des Princes, but was shown a straight red card late in the first half for the challenge on Hakimi. Bayern ultimately won the game 2-1.
hakimi, who accepted the African Footballer of the Year award on Wednesday while wearing a brace and limping,is the first defender in 52 years to receive the honor.
UEFA has confirmed Díaz will miss Bayern’s upcoming Champions League fixtures against Arsenal, Sporting, and Royale Union SG.
Bayern coach Vincent Kompany initially stated on Friday he was only aware of a one-match suspension, but the ban was subsequently extended. Despite the suspension, Bayern remain in a strong position in the competition, currently leading their group with a perfect record alongside Arsenal and Inter. They are considered favorites in their remaining matches, particularly those played at home.
