Luhut: This KPK is super powerful, but … all pages

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Panjaitan said the Corruption Eradication Commission (NCP) is a super powerful institution to reduce the number of corruption if it carries out its role appropriately.

He said that the KPK should have increased prevention in addition to carrying out its duties in the field of prosecution.

“The KPK is super powerful. So in fact, if the KPK can play a proper role, there will be a lot of prevention, it will be able to reduce corruption. But if it is just taking action without prevention, I don’t think it will be wise either,” said Luhut at the Corruption Prevention Action Launch Stranas PK 2021-2022 at the KPK Building, Jakarta, Tuesday (13/4/2021), quoted from Among.

“Now I see that the KPK leadership is pushing a lot for prevention and I really appreciate that,” added Luhut.

Luhut hoped that the Corruption Eradication Commission would not let someone make a mistake unless it was reminded that the prosecution could be applied.

Moreover, Indonesia currently has many strategic projects in a number of regions.

“I think the role of the Corruption Eradication Commission must be advanced, such as handling the fishing ports in the national fish barn which we will carry out. Then the matter of fast trains,” he said.

“There are so many megaprojects in this republic that need to be prevented so that corruption does not occur in the future,” added Luhut.

He further said that from the beginning, the KPK should have been involved in project planning. He also gave an example of several projects where if the KPK was involved, the planning would be more efficient.

“For example, yesterday I saw that the Jakarta-Bandung fast train project could actually save us a lot if the KPK was involved in planning,” said Luhut.

Another example is the effort to improve the system at Batam Port using the “National Single Window”.

“The cost of our ports is 23 percent, while at other ports it is 13 percent, so our inefficiency is more than 10 percent. Now, with digitization (it can be reduced), this is all our role, including with the KPK,” added Luhut.

Luhut again gave an example of how procurement of goods can be saved by increasing the Domestic Component Level (TKDN).

He said that the government’s capital expenditure each year was around Rp. 1,300 trillion and once identified, there were 45 large items worth a total of 34 billion dollars if all were imported.

“We combed it again, it turned out that there were 17 item which can be made domestically, the value is 17 billion US dollars, or the same as Rp 225 trillion. This is a very large number if invested in the country and will generate jobs. So let’s keep an eye on the TKDN process together, because if this TKDN can be implemented properly it will be good, “said Luhut.

Furthermore, the matter of “Batam Logistics Ecosystem” which will also be implemented in 8 ports in Indonesia, according to Luhut, needs KPK assistance.

“I also ask the KPK to participate in it so that it can run because many do not want this project to run because there are so many sources of corruption,” added Luhut.
