Luhukay clashes with club leaders and players and leaves early

Jos Luhukay leaves as trainer of FC St. Pauli. Club and trainer have agreed to dissolve the ongoing contract until mid-2021.

Luhukay finished with a disappointing fourteenth place with St. Pauli in the 2. Bundesliga. His working method was also not well received by the club management and the players. De Venlonaar tried to change the club culture and thereby made many enemies.

Recently he also got into a fight with Henk Veerman, who refused to cheer after a goal. Luhukay is said to have shouted after that goal: “You just stand there and you do nothing!”

“Jos has rightly pointed out that he has come here to put his finger on the sore spot,” said director Andreas Bornemann in a statement about Luhukay’s departure. “He did, perhaps sometimes too much for our clubs.” Bornemann still praises Luhukay for introducing many young players and changing the course of the club. “We will continue to benefit from this in the future.”

Luhukay worked as a trainer for St. Pauli for one season.
