Luhansk TPP switches to gas

The use of this option at other stations in Ukraine is not yet planned, the Ministry of Energy said.

Due to the shortage of coal, the Lugansk thermal power plant will be switched from coal to gas. About it reported at the press service of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine on December 18. The corresponding decision was made by the National Commission for State Regulation in the Spheres of Energy and Utilities (NEURCU).

It is noted that this is due to the lack of any other opportunity to provide a sufficient supply of fuel for the operation of the station due to the blocking of coal supplies by Russia by rail. The use of such an option at other thermal power plants in Ukraine is not yet planned, the department added.

To implement this decision, the government instructed the relevant departments to develop a mechanism for replacing coal at thermal power plants, the report says.

The ministry also stressed that the power plant will operate on gas until the reserves of the previous fuel to provide it will not be sufficient.

“This mechanism will provide a break-even activity for the production of electricity at the Luhansk TPP when using natural gas as fuel and will be used only for the period of a possible lack of sufficient coal reserves in warehouses due to the actions of the Russian Federation,” the Ministry of Energy said in Facebook …

On the eve of the Prime Minister Denis Shmygal said that the problem of coal shortage in Ukraine solved. According to him, in recent weeks, Ukraine has increased its coal reserves by 100 thousand tons and will continue to build up them, about 300 thousand tons per month.
