Lufthansa: Rescue with job cuts? GroKo-Zoff for jobs in the airline industry

That was a remarkable exchange of blows at the BILD talk “The right questions”.

In focus: the future of the crane, the German Lufthansa!

As a reminder: The shareholders of the group had approved a 20 percent capital participation of the Federal Republic on Thursday. This means that Lufthansa can continue to fly with German state aid. The aid package has a volume of nine billion euros.

In advance, the self-made billionaire Heinz-Hermann Thiele had commented critically on what he thought was too strong state influence. At BILD am Sonntag, he therefore called for “restructuring measures”!

Does that mean: Lots of job cuts at Lufthansa?

In the BILD talk, SPD general Lars Klingbeil and economics minister Peter Altmaier were violently concerned about the consequences of state participation in the airline.

One thing is clear: The Federal Minister of Economics does not rule out job cuts at Lufthansa!

Altmaier: “The state is not the better entrepreneur”

“We have decided that we do not impose any conditions or requirements on Lufthansa because the state is not the better entrepreneur,” said the CDU minister:

“Lufthansa has long been talking to the unions about sensible regulations.” These would have to be agreed in the “proven social partnership”: “The unions have said that they are ready for such regulations.” This would “not be decided by the federal government in Berlin and not even from individual shareholders ”.

SPD General Klingbeil is outraged: He finds “this attitude highly problematic. The state joined in, so it was right that we help Lufthansa. But I also have clear expectations. This means that a common way can be found with the works council ”.

Klingbeil expects clear edges from Altmaier

And that should not lead to “cutting jobs”. The SPD “cannot go along this path: that the state gives money and then the company is run in large numbers with job cuts. I also expect the Minister of Economic Affairs to take a clear stand against it. ”

Altmaier, on the other hand, says: “We have made a promise that wherever we participate as a state” in order to save jobs, “we will not interfere in business decisions”.

The federal government would “not send a state commissioner there to monitor the decisions”. Since the SPD, Union “and even the Greens” rejected.

Greens want government regulations

Greens faction leader Katrin Göring-Eckardt sees it differently: “Of course, we insisted that the state impose conditions when it gives money.”

Your party expects “that there will be at least environmental regulations if so much money flows”. Of course, she wanted to “keep the jobs at Lufthansa”, but at the same time make sure that “planes are bought that are environmentally friendly”.

In addition, Lufthansa also had to push for a rethink: “We no longer need domestic flights, but a decent train for it.” The aim is: “to fly less inland, to travel more by train”.

Altmaier points out, however, that such a ban on domestic German flights would then “apply to all airlines in the EU” …

Klingbeil tries to come to a conclusion – from a clear SPD point of view: “The question is: do we want the job cuts at Lufthansa? I can clearly say for us: we don’t want that! And I would have hoped that the Minister for Economic Affairs would do the same here. “

It seems that Klingbeil and Altmaier don’t get together so quickly on this question …
