Luciano Ghezzi, Ligabue’s historic bass player dies

Luciano Ghezzi, historical bass player and collaborator of Ligabue and founder of the ClanDestino group, died at the age of 56. The rocker from Correggio greeted the musician who suddenly disappeared on the night of Friday 2 October with a moving post on Facebook, accompanied by a photo of them together. You have occupied all the frequencies – writes Ligabue, who was linked to Ghezzi by a great friendship -. From the depth of the devastating sound of your bass to your high-pitched voice, suitable for Beatles harmonies. You have always thought about defusing yourself. When it was time to choose between family and music, you were quick to decide: family is something else. But you were always the one who remembered best and most of all what happened to us. About twenty days ago we did a “screaming against the sky” together with all the others that should have been in front of all those people but the virus did not allow it. it was nice at least to be together. It was nice to see you in better shape than ever. Your jokes, your happiness. We will miss you very much, Luciano.

Born November 14, 1963, distant relative of the conductor and composer Gorni Kramer, Ghezzi had taken his first steps in music at the end of the 70s, playing in various bands on the Reggio Emilia music scene (Casablanca, Agents and The Avengers) and had developed a partnership with guitarist Max Cottafavi and drummer Gigi Horses Cocchi. It was the latter who involved him, in 1989, in the project of the newcomer Luciano Ligabue, who was looking for a band to record his first album. Ghezzi, Cavalli Cocchi and Cottafavi – a group that has taken the name of ClanDestino since 1991 – will collaborate with Ligabue until 1994.

In this partnership, Ghezzi recorded the bass parts of the first 4 discs del Liga (Ligabue, Lambrusco coltelli rose & popcorn, Survivors and survivors and At che ora la fine del mondo?), also featured in the best of Primo tempo and played throughout the Neverending tour (1990 and 1993). In 1994 ClanDestino recorded the album of the same name, but in a short time Ghezzi left the group for personal reasons (he will be the protagonist of a reunion in 2003). The musician later collaborated with the band Delinquents, and co-founded Eclipse, a well-known Pink Floyd tribute band. In 2007 Ghezzi returned to the stage with ClanDestino, with a partially modified line-up and the name of Club Destino. In 2005 he took part in the Ligabue concert event at the Campovolo in Reggio Emilia, and in the 2006 tour in the clubs and stadiums. He also took part in subsequent editions of Campovolo in 2011 and 2015, for his friend Ligabue’s 25-year career.
