Luca Berlingerio of Glenview, Illinois, died at a wedding reception at the luxurious The Drake Hotel on the outskirts of Chicago on September 4.
The five-year-old was playing with other children when the accident happened. A surveillance video shows Luca lying on a table by a sofa, with several children playing around.
Luca will slip down from the table, but the granite table top follows and the five-year-old gets the large stone plate in his head, the police at Oak Brook police station tell The New York Post.
Head injuries
A doctor who was also a guest at the wedding gave the five-year-old cardiopulmonary resuscitation, before the health personnel arrived.
The boy had sustained serious head injuries and was rushed to the nearby Elmhurst Hospital. He was later pronounced dead.
The general manager at The Drake Hotel where the reception took place, says in a statement that they are very affected by the incident.
«Our team is devastated by this terrible accident. We want to share our sympathy with family and friends who are affected. We will respect privacy, and will therefore not share the details of the incident», Says general manager Lee Hoener.

Fundraising
Cortez has created a crown roll on the side GoFundMe. The goal of the fundraiser is to support the five-year-old’s mother, father and older brother through the difficult times.
At the time of writing, a total of 21,546 US dollars has been collected – equivalent to about 193,797 Norwegian kroner at today’s exchange rate. The collection has been going on for five days.
