Luas Red Line Disruption Continues Until November Following Bridge Fire
Luas Red Line passengers face continued disruption until the end of November after a fire on August 21st severely damaged the George’s Dock Bridge. operator Transdev announced today that the bridge is “structurally compromised” and must be completely demolished and rebuilt.
Services between Connolly and The Point stations remain suspended, and will do so until the new bridge is completed. A replacement bus service will begin operating tomorrow, running every 10 minutes during regular Luas operating hours. These buses will be wheelchair accessible on the lower deck, and passengers can continue to use existing Luas tickets and TFI Leap Cards. Luas staff will be available to assist commuters during the disruption. To allow for the bridge demolition, adjustments to overhead power cables are necessary, leading to further service curtailments.Luas services will be limited to routes between Saggart/Tallaght and Smithfield after 7pm this Tuesday and Wednesday. Morning services will be unaffected. During these specific shutdowns, Luas tickets will be valid for travel on Dublin Bus.
Transdev stated, “The existing bridge will need to be demolished, and a new bridge constructed,” and confirmed a program for the replacement is in place. Passengers are encouraged to check the official Luas website and social media channels for regular updates.
Transdev concluded by thanking passengers for their “patience and cooperation during this period.”
