Luanda investigates cases identified in Portugal originating in Angola – News

Asked about the number of tests that are done on average and the time needed to obtain the results, the minister noted that the method used, the RT-PCR, “is a complex test” that requires technical capacity and takes, on average, 6 hours to run.

The three test centers process an average of 90 samples per day, “but they can process more”, explaining that the time required to obtain the results also depends on the number of harvests in processing.

“With the pressure we have, we have already reached periods when we had 1500 samples to process. If we have an average capacity for three days, there are periods when it takes longer to give results, it can take 72 hours or more, but on average in 48 hours we have the results of our tests ”, he said.

Angola has recorded 45 positive cases of covid-19 so far, two of which resulted in death.

Globally, according to a report by the AFP news agency, the covid-19 pandemic has already claimed more than 279,000 deaths and infected more than four million people in 195 countries and territories.

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected in late December in Wuhan, a city in central China.

The number of covid-19 cases in Africa today exceeded 60,000 and 2,223 people died in 53 countries, according to the most recent statistics on the pandemic in that continent.

Among African countries that have Portuguese as their official language, Guinea-Bissau leads in number of infections (641 cases and three deaths), followed by Equatorial Guinea (439 and four deaths), Cape Verde (246 and two deaths) , São Tomé and Príncipe (212 cases and five dead), Mozambique (91) and Angola (45 infected and two dead).
