The police named 4 students in Majene, West Sulawesi (Sulbar) as suspects. The four of them were caught in a legal case for lowering Red and white flag during a demonstration in the yard of the local regent’s office.
Reported by Antara, Monday (30/5/2022) the student demonstration took place on Monday (23/5) last week. In this case, the police have questioned 9 people.
“Of the nine students whose statements were taken, we have named four of them as suspects,” said Police Chief Majene Adjunct Senior Commissioner of Police (AKBP) Febryanto Siagian.
The four students who were named as suspects related to the lowering of the Red and White flag, namely FA (22), JN (18), AE (19), and NL (19). They are suspected of violating Article 66 in conjunction with Article 24 Letter a of Law Number 24 of 2009 concerning the State Flag, Language and Emblem and National Anthem in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) 1 of the Criminal Code.
“The suspect’s actions are considered to be degrading the honor of the state flag by lowering the red and white flag Then put up three student organization flags and then fly them back on the same pole,” said Febryanto Siagian.
Role of 4 Suspects
Febryanto said that the FA suspect played a role in lowering, raising, binding, and combining the Red and White flag with the flag of an organda (regional organization). Then the suspect JN played a role in holding and pulling the red and white flagpole string which had been combined with three organda flags.
Meanwhile, suspect AE played a role in handing the flag of the Central Mamuju Student Association Organda (IM Mateng) to the FA suspect to be tied on a rope or connected under a rope. red and white flag and holding the flag when it is about to be hoisted or raised.
“The suspect JN played a role in helping to tie the red and white flag on the flag string to be combined with the flag of regional organizations,” said Febryanto Siagian.
